Mr Hulme said research, expert advice and comparison had confirmed that the portrait was by W.B. McInnes, who won the inaugural Archibald Prize in 1921.

“Incredibly he went on to win the coveted portraiture prize another six times,” Mr Hulme said. “Luckily, Leonora got to keep her portrait, and we can see now why McInnes asked her to model for him.”
