With decades of expertise, Banziger Hulme Fine Art provides trusted valuations, advisory, and brokerage services for Australian and international artworks—from Banksy to Picasso, Arthur Streeton to Brett Whiteley—all with integrity and care.

Banziger Hulme Fine Art Consultants was founded by David Hulme and Brigitte Banziger in 2003. Today, we are one of the most respected art valuers in Sydney and across Australia, specialising in high quality art appraisals and tailor-made advice. This is based on solid analysis and deep knowledge of the Australian and international art market.

Brigitte Banziger and David Hulme are members of the Art Consulting Association of Australia, with David a registered valuer member, and he has been an approved valuer for the Australian Government’s Cultural Gifts Program since 2007.

We provide art valuation for Australian and international artworks on a daily basis for private, company and public collections. We are equally used to appraising the best-known names in art as well as researching and valuing the works of lesser-known artists.

Depending on the circumstances, as experienced online art appraisal specialists, we can prepare your valuation remotely as a desktop valuation. Or we can visit the premises for viewing in person.

We provide both replacement and market values, as the valuations are needed for a variety of reasons, for example art valuation for insurance purposes, valuation for probate and deceased estates, family division, superannuation or disposal of works.

Who We Are

We value artworks in all media, that is oil paintings, works on paper, prints, photographs and sculpture. When appraising art, we research and analyse comparable works in order to put our assessment of an artwork into perspective and provide completely transparent valuations for our clients. Relevant circumstances of a work, such as condition and provenance, are given the attention they require.

Banziger Hulme Fine Art Consultants are not art dealers nor do they run an art gallery. We act solely as valuers, consultants and agents for our clients in the case of the valuation, sale or purchase of art, and can therefore provide arm’s length unbiased advice.

We attend all major fine art auctions in Sydney and Melbourne. This direct exposure provides us with first-hand experience of the development of market values of Australian art in all its diversity. Equally, we follow closely the trends in the international art market.

This enables us to help our collector clients build museum quality art collections, and we represent some of the biggest private collectors of art in Australia. These collections have been assembled over ten to fifteen years. However, in our experience, buying museum quality art does not require unlimited funds, but relies much more on strategic acquisition from the right sources. Today, numerous artworks from the collections of our clients (and our own) have been included in important exhibitions in major public art galleries in Australia and overseas.

LEADERSHIP

With Over 40 Years of Combined Industry Experience

DAVID HULME

Director

David Hulme was educated at King William’s College Private School in the Isle of Man. He has worked in the Australian art industry since 2001, both in art galleries and as a valuer and art consultant in his own business, valuing Australian and international art and advising on buying and selling art.

“We have made some incredible art finds for our clients, and in some instances, this has changed their lives. Equally, a constant source of joy is helping our collector clients build some of Australia’s most significant private art collections”.

David Hulme has been is an approved valuer for the Australian Governments Cultural Gifts Program since 2007, and he is a registered valuer with the Art Consulting Association of Australia (ACAA).

ACAA registered valuers are the leading group of independent, experienced, specialist fine art valuers in Australia. It is a delight to be able to assist so many clients with up-to-date valuations as well as independent advice on the art that they are buying or selling.

We are art collectors ourselves and so have also a deep understanding of the collection journey that we are privileged to share with the private collectors that we represent.”
