The Menzies fine art auction on 28th June offers a tantalising display with museum quality art by many of Australia’s most distinguished artists performing at their best.
The cover lot is one of the largest Fred Williams paintings you are likely to see and highly impressive, well actually, immersive: “Kew Billabong” dates from 1976 and carries estimates of $1 million to $1.2 million, the highest in this sale.
Other delights include an early Jeffrey Smart, “The Bather, Bondi”, 1962, estimated at $300,000-$400,000, two abstract paintings by the currently very popular Sally Gabori, and a striking and unusual snow landscape by Arthur Boyd, as well as an ethereal Sidney Nolan “Bunch of Wildflowers” estimated at $4,000 to $6,000.
You can view the offering in Melbourne from 15 – 18 June at the Menzies gallery at 1 Darling Street, South Yarra.
In Sydney, the preview is on from 22 – 27 June, at 12 Todman Avenue, Kensington.
The auction is held on Wednesday, 28 June 2023, 6.30 pm, at the Menzies premises in Sydney.
