In their last auction of the year, Menzies present a diverse offering of 125 lots in their summer sale held in their South Yarra premises in Melbourne.
The star painting is without a doubt the cover lot: Jeffrey Smart’s “Outside the Ministry” from 1970, and it’s as impressive a Smart as you are ever going to see.
If you prefer landscapes to the urban, look out for the two cracking and well priced Fred Williams gouaches. And for aficionados of international prints: the (very rare) complete set of 4 screenprints of Muhammad Ali by Andy Warhol is on offer, as are two superb Lucian Freud etchings. There are also some small stand-out finds in the lower price range, for example two attractive Guy Boyd sculptures. In “Dave’s Faves” below you’ll find some more of the beautiful offerings that have caught our attention.
Even better of course is to have a look for yourself:
– in Sydney from 8 – 11 November at 12 Todman Avenue, Kensington
– in Melbourne from 15 – 21 November at 1 Darling Street, South Yarra
The auction takes place on Thursday, 22 November, 6.30 pm, at 1 Darling Street, South Yarra.
Ask us for due diligence advice on any lots you are interested in, so you can make a fully informed decision before buying at auction. We will be attending the auction, so can assist you also with bidding on the night, and everything that goes with it.
